LSPMB bill passes Senate, heads to House

After taking on several pages of amendments, legislation shifting oversight of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board set sail for the House following Senate approval Tuesday.

With John Folse, the celebrated chef and food manufacturer from St. James Parish, elected as its newest chairman and Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne positioned to possibly oversee its activities, the board could experience significant changes under the revised legislation authored by Sen. Norby Chabert, R-Houma.

If enacted, it would give the lieutenant governor total appointment authority, which the governor currently has, and provide the board and lieutenant governor with new options for hiring future executive directors.
