M&J Seafood rides social media wave

M&J Seafood — the United Kingdom’s largest independent seafood supplier — on Wednesday announced that it now offers its customers “catch of the day” messages via text, e-mail and Twitter.

The social media strategy aims to help restaurants order recently caught fish from anywhere in the country and allows M&J to share its passion for seafood. The messages include a “click to call” action, allowing customers to order seafood as it arrives in port.

In addition, using e-mail and Twitter, pictures and information are sent directly to consumers.

“M&J is continually looking at new ways to supply the freshest fish to our customers. By embracing the digital revolution, we are able to provide our customers with up-to-date images and information on fresh fish, which they can purchase for their pub or restaurant,” said Clare Twiss, the company’s marketing manager.

M&J operates 11 branches throughout the UK and supplies seafood to more than 12,000 chefs nationwide. Its customers include restaurants, pubs hotels, contract caterers and academic institutions, as well as fishmongers and other wholesalers.
