Miami-based Macknight Food Group last week took over smoked salmon processor Grants Smoked Foods of the United Kingdom.
Jonathan Brown, co-founder of Macknight Food Group, founded Grants in Maryport in 1984, before selling it in 2001 to Cumbrian Seafoods.
Browns' U.S. and UK businesses will now be held under one U.K. holding company, Smokehouse Holdings Ltd. Grants will be the flagship company for Macknight in the UK and Europe, along with the Organic Smokehouse in Wales, which was also recently acquired. Macknight operates five U.S. facilities in Miami, Las Vegas and California.
Brown anticipates creating 60 jobs at Grants and has named Alex McMorran as managing director.
