OCI plant unlikely to reopen

The Ocean Choice plant in Souris is not likely to reopen, according to Innovation Minister Allen Roach.

Last April, the Newfoundland-based seafood processing plant announced it was shutting down its Souris plant, throwing 300 people out of work.

The P.E.I. government launched a lawsuit against Ocean Choice a few months later, seeking nearly CAD 10 million in damages. The province alleges Ocean Choice failed to make its minimum annual payments of CAD 750,000 in 2010 and again in 2011.
