Pangasius forum brings Chinese buyers and Vietnamese suppliers together

China’s inaugural Pangasius Industry Development Roundtable meeting in late March will feature some of the country’s biggest buyers and producers of the fish. The meeting will take place in Wuhan, located in the inland province of Hubei.

In 2017, China became the top customer for Vietnamese pangasius exports, accounting for USD 400 million (EUR 322.6 million) of Vietnam’s USD 1.8 billion (EUR 1.45 billion) worth of pangasius exports in 2017, according to Wuhan Food and Island Network Technology Co., the organizer of the roundtable.

Dai Than Seafoods, Godaco Seafood, and Hoang Long Seafood are three of the Vietnamese players attending, alongside the Vietnam International Development and Investment Corp. On the Chinese side, leading e-tailers Tmall and Yiguo will be attending, as well as Shanghai-based Liang Pin Xing Supply Chain Service Co., Beijing-based Chen Xing Tian He International Food Co., and Anhui Fu Huang San Zhen Food Co., which is based in Anhui.

Pangasius has become quickly popular in China’s inland and less-developed regions, where convenience retailers and caterers have helped to spread interest and demand for the fish.
