Fishermen in Maine and Massachusetts hauled in extremely rare catches over the past few days: green and blue lobsters, considered at least one-in-a-million occurrences.
The green lobster was caught around Harpswell, Maine on 4 August, according to NBC 10 News. While many lobsters have a greenish tint, this lobster is fully green and many fishermen who said they’ve been losbterin for years who caught a glimpse of the crustacean said they had never seen a green lobster before, according to CBS 13 WGME.
After getting a public viewing at Watson’s General Store in Cundy’s Harbor, Maine, the lobster was sent to the Maine State Aquarium in West Boothbay Harbor.
In Plymouth, Massachusetts, on 8 August, fisherman Wayne Nickerson of FV Windgson hauled in a bright blue lobster, a two-pound male he named Bleu. Nickerson said According to the BBC, the odds of catching a blue lobster are one in two million.
The lobsteris being held in a lobster pound in North Plymouth, Massachusetts, and Nickerson told ABC 5 WCVB that he hopes Bleu is adopted by the New England Aquarium.
