This country is now the second largest trout, tilapia exporter to US

Colombia has moved up to become the second largest exporter of fresh trout and red tilapia to the United States, according to a report from El Pilon.

A 30 percent increase in trout and tilapia exports in 2014 – totaling 5,395 metric tons – was observed. The influx contributed to a boost in income for local producers; producers saw their incomes climb to an average of USD 44,412 in 2015, up from USD 33,288 in 2014.

"The implementation of special projects to generate an environment of innovation and value-added” helped to contribute to the latest rise, said Aurelio Iragorri, Colombia’s agriculture minister.
