Vietnam seafood production declines in key regions

Seafood harvests in Vietnam’s Quang Ninh province and Ho Chi Minh City decreased in the opening two months of this year, confirmed the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

Total production in Quang Ninh dropped very slightly to 19,750 metric tons (MT) in January and February, with output from aquaculture totaling 9,200 MT, up 2.6 percent year-on-year; and capture fisheries contributing 10,550 MT, down 2.3 percent. Currently, the province has 8,028 fishing vessels, an increase of 13 compared to 2015.

During the same period, Ho Chi Minh’s output fell 9.4 percent year-on-year to 10,258 MT, with aquaculture contributing 64.3 percent, down 16.3 percent, and 35.7 percent coming from capture production, up 6.3 percent.
