Vietnam shrimp exports fall short

Shrimp exports seem unlikely to reach the target of USD 2.5 billion this year after falling for two successive months due to rising competition from other countries and increasing costs.

The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) reported that July shipments were down 6.8 percent year-on-year after a 4 percent fall the previous month.

VASEP now predicts third-quarter exports to be no more than USD 690 million, or 4 percent lower than in the same period last year. It will take exports in the first three quarters to USD 1.7 billion.
