Zhangzidao acquires Canadian lobster processor

China-based Zhangzidao Group Corp. has announced a rebranding of its name and the acquisition of a lobster processing company in Canada.

Zhangzidao, now operating as Zoneco Group, announced the acquisition of Capital Seafood International of Nova Scotia. The subsidiary will export most of its goods to Asia, primarily China. While the processor will produce a number of species, it is best known for processing and packing live and frozen Canadian lobster.

“We will make this facility operational year-round and we estimate that we will create 30 to 50 new full-time jobs, depending on the time of the year,” the company said in a statement.

Zoneco said in its announcement that this is the first of a growing presence by the company in Atlantic Canada. The company said it planned more acquisitions, “most likely in Nova Scotia.”
