Supply chain traceability firms Wholechain and iFoodDS have partnered to provide interoperability between their two platforms, ensuring companies using either product can transfer traceability information to companies using the other product.

"Food suppliers are being asked to meet growing traceability requirements from multiple customers," iFoodDS Chief Traceability Officer Andy Kennedy said in a release. "By connecting Wholechain with the iFoodDS Trace Exchange network, we are helping suppliers share data with customers more efficiently while preserving flexibility in how they manage their traceability operations."

Although the enforcement deadline for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Food Traceability Rule (FSMA 204) has been pushed back multiple times, now to 2028, experts warn that seafood companies need to prepare for compliance. The regulation requires any company that makes or possesses food in the supply chain to hold key data points, allowing products to be recalled quickly in the event of a foodborne illness or similar safety recall.

Both Wholechain and iFoodDS provide platforms that help companies collect traceability data across the supply chain, ensuring that the data required under FSMA 204 travels with products and can be recalled at any time. On 31 August, the two businesses announced that they have integrated their two products, reducing any friction in passing data between the networks.

"We're excited to enable more seamless ways of tracking products under FSMA 204. Our integration with iFoodDS reinforces our commitment to interoperability, offering our customers flexible, cost effective, and holistic solutions to meet their customers' traceability requirements, so they can focus on their core business," Wholechain CEO Jayson Berryhill said in a release.
