Conglomerate CITIC markets pollution fix for Chinese aquaculture

One of China’s most recognizable corporate names has entered the environmental remediation market promising solutions for the aquaculture sector. CITIC Ge Yi Circular Economy Co. is a subsidiary of the state-owned CITIC Group, a behemoth with interests from finance to real estate.

Significantly, Ge Yi’s products are made from natural products such as extracts from agricultural residues like straw, according to the firm’s general manager Zou Hai Ping. The company operates its “biorefinery” in the east coast Anhui province, a key region for agriculture and freshwater aquaculture.

The new company is betting on demand for soil remediation and water purification products as China’s clamp down on water pollution has seen vast swathes of aquaculture removed from lakes, reservoirs and coastlines across the country.

Ge Yi’s slogan, “From green to gold,” has been on display at aquaculture trade fairs in China this spring, a reference to the financial windfall it sees in environmental remediation products.
