Turkey’s aquaculture export earnings near USD 1 billion

Turkey’s aquaculture exports increased in value by 13 percent last year to reach USD 958 million (EUR 835.1 million), according to new data compiled by the Aegean Exporters' Association (EİB).

In volume terms, these exports increased by 21,079 metric tons (MT) to 177,659 MT.

The Netherlands was Turkey’s main overseas market, bringing in USD 148 million (EUR 129 million) worth of aquaculture products. Italy and Russia followed with USD 101 million (EUR 88 million) and USD 68 million (EUR 59.3 million) respectively.

South Korea provided the most growth for Turkish exporters, with the trade increasing by 114 percent to USD 20.5 million (EUR 17.9 million).

In total, Turkey supplied its products to 87 countries in 2018, with farmed seabass and seabream proving its most successful exports.
