Total trout exports from Iran are expected to amount to 30,000 metric tons (MT) in the current fiscal year (March 2017-18), an increase of 200 percent compared with the previous 12 months.
Iran’s Financial Tribune reported that Hassan Salehi, chairman of the Iran Fisheries Organization, had confirmed that the trout trade had increased dramatically since international sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program were lifted in January 2016. This resulted in the export of 10,000 MT of the fish last year.
Iran produced 1.1 million MT of seafood last year, of which 110,000 MT worth USD 412 million (EUR 349.5 million) was exported.
At the same time, Iran’s per capita consumption of seafood increased by 400 g to 10.6 kg.
