Vietnam exported crab products worth USD 49.8 million (EUR 45 million) in the first six months of this year, a rise of 3.1 percent year-on-year, with increased sales to the Japanese and EU markets.
Thanks to strong growth in first-quarter sales, crab exports to Japan in the first-half of 2016 totaled USD 9.3 million (EUR 8.4 million), up 12 percent year-on-year, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP). In the same period, its exports to the EU reached USD 9 million (EUR 8.1 million), up 2.6 percent.
Within the EU, France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Belgium were the main crab importers from Vietnam during this period.
However, Vietnam’s crab sales to the U.S. market fell 17.6 percent to USD 18.5 million (EUR 16.7 million) in H1 2015, with VASEP citing increased competition for market share from Indonesia and the Philippines.
