Description:

Fishermen and coastal communities are increasingly experiencing shifts in fish resource abundance and distribution, likely related to changing ocean temperatures caused by climate change. Eva Papaioannou, a post-doctoral researcher at Rutgers University’s Department of Geography, will discuss the reactions of both the seafood industry in the United States and its regulators to the fast-occurring changes in the location and abundance of fish stocks resulting from warming oceans. Such changes are already impacting the profitability of processors, retailers and other business categories in the seafood supply chain, and the future actions of regulatory authorities will play a critical role in the industry’s future success as it adapts to the new realities of a changing climate. In the webinar, Papaioannou will review new research that may help provide pragmatic management recommendations and guide businesses and coastal communities in preparation and planning
