Use social media to improve trade show experience

What’s your social media plan for the Boston Seafood Show? Live blogging? Twitter updates? Four-Square check-ins? If you haven’t already streamlined how you're going to use social media to enhance your 2011 International Boston Seafood Show experience, here are a few ideas:

1. Get your accounts set up. If you’re curious about Twitter, this is a great time to join. You can find a great group of people to follow before the show by simply checking out the great show-focused list that @Bostonseafood has already created (more than 25 tweeters and growing) that are participating in this year’s show. Many of this year’s vendors have FaceBook and YouTube accounts as well. Use Boston as your driver to get involved in social media!  

2. Spruce up your existing accounts. If you have social media outlets that are languishing, get them active! No one wants to search for you on the internet and find a blog post from November or a tweet about New Year’s Eve. Beyond just sprucing up accounts, use them actively to promote your booth! Use Twitter (and the 2011 Boston Seafood Show Twitter Wall) to let people know you’re serving sample or to remind people about scheduled demos or presentations.  

3. Use your mobile phone as a weapon, for good! Make sure your phone is loaded with everything you need to make the show a success. Make it easy for yourself to load tweets and photos, send texts and change restaurant reservations.

4. Get a new business card! Does your business card have your company’s current social media information on it?  If not, it might be a great time to introduce people to your blog or other new outlet.

5. Get ready to blog (or at least read what other people are blogging about)! If you’re planning to blog from the show for your company you can save yourself some precious minutes by loading in information ahead of time. For instance, if you’re attending seminars, load speakers names and short bios into a document ahead of time. Anyone who’s involved with Social Media will remind you it’s not a substitute for good old fashioned face-to-face conversations and meetings and the show is perfect for those. However, a well thought out social media plan for Boston can help you and your team make the most of this important event.
