Top 5 finalists revealed for 2017 UK Seafood Restaurant of the Year

Saltroom Monkfish.JPG4.) The Salt Room, Brighton, West Sussex

The Salt Room is celebrating two years on Brighton’s sea front, headed by the team behind Brighton’s award-winning The Coal Shed. The restaurant is a modern British seafood and grill establishment, its focus centered on celebrating the fruits of the sea, delivering the finest seafood and grilled meat cooked over charcoal to the table. With an emphasis on sustainability and championing local produce, The Salt Room continues the theme of sharing plates like its sister restaurant.

Located opposite the West Pier, this seaside dining retreat has uninterrupted sea views that can be enjoyed from the inside via glass fronted windows and for when the temperatures rises, outside on the shaded terrace.

The Salt Room’s oyster and crustacean selection is sparkling and sublime, with the hero, The Surf Board, made to share and including the day’s fruits of the sea, served hot or cold, with oysters, Scottish prawns, scallops, langoustines, mussels, clams, squid and crab. If you prefer to go by the piece, you’re well taken care of with scallops in-shell, kimchi butter, clams, sherry, smoked anchovies, capers, olives, king prawns served on ice or coal-roasted, or whole-cock crab – also served on ice or coal-roasted.

The list of mains read like a seafood symphony, with whole bream, turbot, cod, grey mullet, lemon sole, stone bass and a daily house-made fish cake.
