Le Colonial, Chicago
French-Vietnamese restaurant Le Colonial has become a hotspot in Chicago, with the likes of movie star Sienna Miller recently stopping by to try the eatery’s take on monkfish, a dish known as Ca Bam Xuc Banh Trang.
Le Colonial’s monkfish is labeled an appetizer on the restaurant’s menu, but it's hearty enough to serve as a small entrée. Chef Chan Le dices the monkfish into small chunks, then stir-fries them in a wok with chili, turmeric, lemongrass and peanuts. The resulting mess of deliciousness is topped with a sprig of cilantro and served alongside crisp toasted sesame crackers.
The dish has received rave reviews from the Chicago Tribune, The Chicago Examiner and famed Chicago food reviewer the Ghost Guest.
