In 2016, the numbers of Chinese inbound and outbound tourists were equal at 140 million each, with growth in outbound travel numbers outpacing inbound for a decade now. That means outbound travel will continue to grow as more Chinese start to afford international air travel – something which government encourages. Directly targeting these consumers in Europe and North America is already a priority for various Western apparel and hotel brands. Seafood brands and restaurateurs are following suit.
