Snapshots from Asian Seafood Exposition

• The first round of the Lobster Chef of the Year competition kicked off at the culinary demonstration area on Tuesday morning. Andrew Lee, 35, executive chef at Hong Kong Century, part of Hong Kong-based Novotel Hotels, lead off the competition. He had 45 minutes to prepare his dish — Poached Lobster with Red Rice Fish Broth — and then present it to the three judges. The competition is sponsored by Shucks Maine Lobster.

• Reporters and cameramen crowded the Japanese Pavilion on Tuesday afternoon to witness the first Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan-organized media event since the 11 March earthquake and tsunami. The event featured Michael Lam, Japan’s “Young Gourmet,” and Takuya Watanuki, a renowned culinary expert, who cooked up an array of dishes featuring Japanese seafood. Koji Nanbu, deputy director of MAFF’s export promotion division, food industry affairs bureau, also addressed the audience.
