Aquaculture brings yellowtail market to Maine

Mainers are used to fresh caught lobster, shrimp and Haddock from the chilly Atlantic waters. In a few years, groceries will also be selling fresh yellowtail, a fish the naturally lives in tropical waters.

In 2012, Acadia Harvest Incorporated partnered the University of Maine's Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research to develop its start-up business of growing yellowtail using land based aquaculture production. The company now has 16,000 young yellowtail fish that they are growing to market size of four and a half pounds.
