Salmon and trout egg breeding company AquaGen has created an agreement with Chilean salmon farmer Australis to make AquaGen the sole provider of eggs to Australis, according to a statement from both companies.
The agreement allows for long-term delivery of genetically-improved salmon eggs from AquaGen to Australis, and AquaGen's acquisition of Australis subsidiary Landcatch Chile.
"We are very happy to be the sole provider of salmon genetics to Australis Seafoods, and we take this as a strong vote of confidence from an important player in the industry," said AquaGen CEO Espen Müller. "The investment in production related infrastructure further enhances our ability to serve the Chilean market with high performing salmon genetics the year around in a foreseeable manner, and it demonstrates Aqua Gen´s long term commitment to the Chilean salmon industry."
AquaGen provides fertilized Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout eggs to the aquaculture industry, and Ricardo Misraij, CEO of Australis, said he welcomes the new agreement.
"We have identified genetics and access to the best starting material into our production as one of the key areas in order to improve profitability," he said. "The agreement with AquaGen is therefore of great importance for our strategic development going forward."
