Aquaculture technology company Billund Aquatech will rebrand as Globaq Solutions, according to Founder Christian Sørensen.
The “transition to Globaq marks an exciting new chapter. Our mission is clear: we develop recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) that support responsible fish farming – today and tomorrow," Sørensen said.
Before founding Billund Aquatech, Sørensen founded Denmark-based Billund Aquaculture, which declared bankruptcy in July 2024 after nearly four decades in business. At the time, then-Chairman Jon Refsnes told SeafoodSource that the pandemic and sanctions imposed on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine had been among the causes of the company’s financial struggles.
Pure Salmon acquired some of the company’s intellectual property and assets, while AKVA took over work on a post-smolt facility that Billund had been constructing for Årdal Aqua in Norway.
In November 2024, Sørensen announced the launch of Billund Aquatech, which included a small group of former Billund experts as its staff.
"We have years of hands-on experience and a dedicated team. We work side by side with our clients to develop tailored solutions that improve efficiency, protect the environment, and help shape the future of a more sustainable aquaculture. Everything we do is driven by innovation, commitment, and deep expertise,” he added.
Since its founding, the company said it has built a strong organizational foundation and could offer services such as RAS design, turnkey project execution, retrofits, and system upgrades.
“We are ready for what’s next and proud to move forward under the Globaq Solutions name,” Sørensen said.
