Cell Aqua harvests first barramundi in Thailand

Cell Aqua recently announced that it has harvested its first batch of barramundi from its new fish farm Thailand.

The processed fillets will be shipped to Cell Aqua’s processing facility in Western Australia, where they are value-added, packaged and sold under the company’s Eco-Star brand. The ready-to-cook Eco-Star barramundi meals include Garlic Butter Sauce, Smoked Chilli Butter and Lemon Cracked Pepper.

As part of Cell Aqua’s vertically integrated “Hatch to Dispatch” business model, the barramundi harvests are expected to result in a significant increase in revenue for the company. Cell Aqua plans to expand its Thai operation with the development of a specialized production facility. Construction is already underway and is expected to be completed later this year.

Cell Aqua’s opened its Thai fish farm last October. At the time, the company said it has the capacity to produce about 500 metric tons of fish annually, with the potential of acquiring an adjoining site that would boost production capabilities to 1,000 metric tons.
