Cermaq sells Chile plant to Australis

Cermaq subsidiary Mainstream Chile has sold its Calbuco, Chile processing plant to Australis Seafoods for USD 11.7 million (EUR 9.1 million).

The sale follows an acquisition in October 2012 by the company of salmon farm Cultivos Marinos Chiloé. In a statement, the company indicated the move was part of a streamlining of its operations, and will allow it to concentrate on its remaining plants.

“Mainstream Chile expects over time to invest in one of the three remaining processing plants to ensure sufficient processing capacity in a more efficient manner,” the company said.

Mainstream Chile used the Calbuco processing plant primarily in the peak season for trout and Coho salmon.

The company indicated that no jobs would be lost at the plant during the transition.

“The employees at the processing plant in Calbuco will be transferred to Australis Seafood with unchanged terms of employment,” the company said in its statement.
