Farmed cobia sold directly to UK consumers

Beginning next month, farmed cobia will be sold directly to consumers in the United Kingdom, thanks to a new arrangement between Marine Farms and UK-based Regal Fish Supplies Ltd.

Previously, Marine Farms’ cobia, which is raised in Vietnam, was available only to industry suppliers. Now consumers can order cobia loins frozen, skinned and boneless in 250- to 300-gram packages directly from Regal Fish’s website, www.regalfish.co.uk.

In conjunction, Norway-based Marine Farms has launched a website, www.cookingwithcobia.com, featuring recipes and a videos showing preparation and cooking techniques. The campaign also highlights Marine Farms’ operations and sustainability efforts.

“We believe that cobia has the potential to be really popular with UK consumers,” said Mark Warrington of Marine Farms’ sales and marketing arm. “It has everything we know they want: It’s easy to prepare, it’s convenient, really versatile and it has a great flavor.”

Added Warrington, “Real Fish Supplies has an excellent reputation with both the industry and consumers and we are sure this venture will be a great success for both parties.”

Marine Farms’ has also been a hit at King’s Seafood in Southern California, which became the world’s first restaurant chain to feature cobia farmed in Vietnam.
