Friend of the Sea on Monday announced that the Piscifactoría Sierra Nevada (PSN) sturgeon farm has obtained sustainability certification for both its sturgeon and caviar.
PSN includes two of Europe’s largest sturgeon farms, Riofrio Andalucia and Yesa Navarra.
In an area of the world where sturgeon overfishing was common, PSN has more than 50 years of experience in breeding native Mediterranean sturgeon and currently has the world’s largest population of Acipenser naccarii sturgeon.
“We can now proudly confirm that Friend of the Sea has certified the sustainability of the full cycle of sturgeon and caviar production at PSN. We appreciate the fact that Friend of the Sea is the only scheme in the world which can certify, with the same seal of approval, both farmed and wild sustainable products,” said Philippe Barbier, PSN quality manager.
