Bodø, Norway-based fish-farming firm Gigante Salmon has announced a delay in the development of its land-based flow-through salmon farm on Lille Indre Rosøy in Rødøy.
In a 17 January press release, the company reported that prolonged bad weather had made installation of surface cladding on floors impossible, had delayed the construction of the facility’s second production pool, and affected the progress of production pool one.
The company’s release stated that while it expected costs for the project as a whole to rise somewhat from the estimate it had reported in its Q3 2024 update, it did not expect to exceed established financing overall. In Q3, Gigante’s reported estimated capex per kilogram of biomass was up to NOK 65 (USD 5.68, EUR 5.52), based on expected production of 16,000 metric tons.
Though the company had reported a Q2 2024 boost with its first harvest in development, it has experienced a number of setbacks on the way to that goal – from the death of 300,000 smolt to the firing of a CEO over cost hikes at the Rødøy site.
