The MYR 10.8 billion (USD 3.5 billion, EUR 2.8 billion) fisheries and aquaculture industry is expected to rise by 10 percent to 2.2 metric tons (MT) this year, or MYR 11.9 billion (USD 3.8 billion, EUR 3 billion), said the Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry.
Deputy secretary-general (planning) Datuk Raihan Sharif said aquaculture was expected to contribute 631,000 MT, or MYR 3 billion, to this year’s economy.
This is part of the government’s efforts to raise productivity in the fisheries sector and ensure adequate protein supply for the people.
