An abandoned indoor fishery in Columbia County is drawing interest from a Massachusetts company that cultivates scallops, oysters and other saltwater fish in ocean bays just south of Boston.
Greenport Supervisor John Porreca tells me that the company, Atlantic Cape Fisheries in New Bedford, near Boston, spent two days last week at the former Local Ocean site in Greenport, 35 miles south of Albany, N.Y.
Local Ocean employed more than 20 people, many of whom lived in the town of Greenport, before its owners left abruptly last month.
