New aquaculture technology company formed

Bennex on Tuesday announced that its aquaculture division has been sold to two Bergen, Norway-based companies — ROV manufacturer Argus Remote Systems AS and offshore-services company Mohn Drilling AS — to form a new aquaculture technology company called Mohn Aqua Group.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Based in Forres, Scotland, Mohn Aqua manufactures underwater camera, control systems and water-quality monitoring technology for marine cage farms. The company also continues to work in partnership with Airmar Technology (seal and sea lion deterrent systems) and VAKI (counting, grading and biomass estimation systems). According to Bennex, Mohn Aqua will establish operations in all major salmon-farming markets.

“We are very pleased that the acquisition of Bennex Aquaculture has been completed,” said Chris Hyde, the company’s managing director. “Our new owners bring a wealth of offshore technology and experience into our operation, and we are very excited about what the future as the Mohn Aqua Group holds for us.”

Added Stein Mohn, chairman of Mohn Aqua Group: “We are delighted to have acquired the business of Bennex Aqua. The aquaculture industry represents a huge opportunity for us and for the technology we can provide.”
