Saltwater-farmed tilapia producer seeks US partner

Aquasense International Corp., the U.S. holding company of the affiliate aquaculture company, Aquasense Panama (ASP), announced it has entered into discussions with several global seafood companies for the exclusive right to distribute the fish industry’s first even farmed, saltwater red tilapia products to the U.S. market.

Under the distribution agreement, ASP will initially supply 500 metric tons (MT) of farmed tilapia annually to be distributed to high-end U.S. retailers and chefs, starting as early as next year. By the end of the first project phase the volume will increase to 6,000 MT.

All of the product will consist of sustainably farmed red tilapia grown in open ocean production systems in waters off the pacific coast of the Republic on Panama. The tilapia will be offered fresh, whole and filleted.

Aquasense is an early stage aquaculture company that in 2007 began fish farming operations to the waters surrounding Panama. The company said its mission is to contribute to meeting the rising food needs of a growing world population in a sustainable manner.
