Sino Agro’s growing presence in China

Sino Agro Food on Friday announced that is has become among the largest developers of modern recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) in China.

Construction on the company’s first RAS facility was completed in late 2010, and stocking commenced in early 2011. To date, 12 out of 16 grow tanks are in full operation. The stocked fish should begin to reach marketable size of about 500 grams by 30 October.

Sino Agro has also recently started construction on a second facility, which will be the first commercial-scale RAS prawn farm in China, said the company. When completed, the new farm is expected to produce some 500 metric tons of prawns annually. Pending government approvals and finalization of contracts, Sino Agro also plans to start construction on a single-site, two-module farm later this year adjacent to its 100-acre open fish farm, bringing the total number of RAS modules to four.

Sino Agro also released a video on its website showcasing its current operations and construction.
