Spain to open bluefin tuna farm

A groundbreaking bluefin tuna farm is being opened in Murcia to ease pressure on the ocean’s reserves of the gourmet fish. 

The regional government and the National Oceanography Institute have invested EUR 6 million (USD 7.8 million) to kickstart the captive breeding program.

Several adult bluefin tuna, weighing up to 150 kilos each, will be kept in four large tanks near the Valdelentisco watercourse in Mazarron.
