AKVA Chile taps Christian Schäfer as new general manager

Bryne, Norway-based AKVA Group, a maker of aquaculture cages and feeding software, has named aquaculture veteran Christian Schäfer as the new general manager of AKVA Group Chile, the company announced in a press release.

Previously, Schäfer was responsible for software and technology at AKVA Group Chile. He also led Australasia operations from 2012 to 2014. He is replacing Andrew Campbell, who was promoted within the company to regional president for the Americas, Australasia, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.

“We are in a very intense period in the operation, and project delivery this year will probably be one of the highest in history,” said Campbell, the newly appointed executive, who has been with the company for 16 years. “We are preparing to face this scenario and the future in the best way, relying on our people’s experience, applying continuous improvement processes and developing products and services with an innovation-oriented approach… [to] deliver the best possible solutions.”

AKVA recently formed its Land Based Americas division with the goal of specializing in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). The division is based in Puerto Montt, Chile and is led by general manager Mary Ann Rademacher.

Both AKVA Group Chile (cage-based) and the new Land Based Americas are independent and their leaders report directly to Campbell.

In the press release, Campbell highlighted Schäfer’s significant aquaculture experience and knowledge of “what the future requirements [of the sector] will be.”

“He has led the areas of software and technology, and his international experience has given him a global vision of aquaculture, with a strong emphasis on technologies, which will be increasingly relevant in an industry that is committed to innovation,” Campbell said.
