Chinese fishing, shipbuilding firm Liaoyu secures trawler sale in Russia

One of China’s leading state-owned fishing firms has been on a sales drive in Russia for its shipbuilding subsidiary, as leaders in Beijing and Moscow pledge to further integrate their economies.

Liaoning Province Dalian Ocean Fishery Group Co. (also known as Liaoyu Group) has completed a trawler for clients in Magadan, the port city on the Sea of Okhotsk, and while it hasn’t been named, the client the provincial government in Dalian has been keen to take credit for helping secure the sale through government-to-government contacts.

A note from Liaoyu pointed out that much of the equipment installed on the 55.8-meter-long, 13-meter-wide vessel was imported, including the navigation system – the trawler won’t be using the much-touted Beidou satellite navigation system that China developed as an alternative to GPS.

The new vessel has 200 tons of refrigeration capacity on board. Located in Russia’s remote northeast, Magadan port is navigable from May to December.
