Former Santa Monica Seafood VP joins Newport International

St. Petersburg, Florida, U.S.A.-based seafood company Newport International has hired Jay Gallagher as its new director of sales for the U.S. Southwest region, the firm announced on 30 August.

In the newly-created role, Gallagher will be in charge of selling Newport’s branded products to the company’s existing and future distribution clients. He will also work on product placement initiatives among foodservice chains and regional retail outlets, Newport said in a press release.

Gallagher comes to Newport with 40 years of experience in meat and seafood sales and distribution. He hails most recently from Santa Monica Seafood, where he served as regional vice president of sales. Before joining Santa Monica Seafood, Gallagher worked as the West Coast regional sales manager for Pacific Cove Crabmeat, as a senior buyer for Sysco Newport Meat, and as a seafood buyer for R.W. Zant Co.

Newport expressed enthusiasm regarding the business opportunities ahead now that Gallagher and the company have joined forces.

“We are delighted to welcome Jay Gallagher to the Newport International family. His extensive knowledge of the meat and seafood sales industry makes him the perfect addition as we look to not only strengthen our existing client base but to significantly grow it under his direction,” Newport Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Craig Hospodor said.

Founded in 1964, Newport International is in the business of importing fresh and frozen pasteurized crabmeat. The company is a longtime member of the National Fisheries Institute's Crab Council.
