Clackamas, Oregon, U.S.A.-based Pacific Seafood has officially completed the purchase of Trident Seafood's Kodiak, Alaska-based processing operations, which the two companies previously announced in October.

The acquisition includes three well-established processing plants Star of Kodiak, Alkod, and Kodiak Near Island as well as the Plaza bunkhouse apartments for team member housing, the two major suppliers said in a press release

Pacific Seafood said it will retain Trident’s Kodiak team members, ensuring continuity and stability for the team and the local community.

“Kodiak is home to some of the most abundant and sustainable fisheries in the world, and we are honored to partner with our new, very talented team members, the fleet, and the community to unlock new opportunities for this region,” Pacific Vice President of Processing Ashton Meier said.

Meier will lead the company’s combined operations in Kodiak.

“With Pacific Seafood’s vertical integration, global market access, and value-added capabilities, we are ready to deliver unmatched value and stability for Kodiak’s hardworking fishermen and our customers worldwide,” Meier added.

The Kodiak plant processes pollock, salmon, Pacific cod, halibut, flatfish, rockfish, crab, and herring. Pacific has existing operations in Kodiak and preexisting ties to the Kodiak fleet, according to the October press release from both companies.

“Pacific Seafood’s expertise, value-added capabilities, and robust distribution infrastructure position them well to bring immediate value to the wide variety of species harvested in Kodiak,” Trident Seafoods CEO Joe Bundrant said at the time.

Pacific and Trident said Meier is working closely with the local team and fleet to ensure a seamless start to the upcoming cod and pollock seasons.

Pacific’s U.S. distribution network has facilities throughout the country, as well as a dedicated transportation team with a fleet of over 200 trucks and an air freight division.

“The acquisition of Trident’s Kodiak facilities enhances Pacific’s ability to provide customers with a fully rounded supply of wild whitefish and other Alaska species, offering direct access to these resources,” the two companies said.

Pacific’s expanded capacity will also allow it to better serve and support Pacific’s valued fishing partners operating in the Gulf of Alaska and West Coast fisheries.

Trident announced it planned to divest from its plants in Kodiak, Ketchikan, Petersburg, and False Pass Alaska, as well as the South Naknek Diamond NN cannery facility and its support facilities in Chignik, in December 2023. Bundrant said the action was necessary to deliver fail value to the fleet and came three months after the company announced it was delaying the development and construction of a processing plant in Unalaska, Alaska.

The company sold its Ketchikan facility to Silver Bay Seafoods in March 2024 and then sold its Petersburg facility to EC Phillips & Son in April. Soon after, the company announced it had sold its False Pass facility to Silver Bay Seafoods in June.
