Peter Hajipieris joins Regal Springs as global advisor for CSR, sustainability and external affairs

Peter Hajipieris has joined Singapore-based tilapia farming company Regal Springs Group as its global advisor for corporate social responsbility, sustainability and external affairs.

The Regal Springs Group raises tilapia in lakes in Indonesia, Honduras and Mexico without the use of chemicals, growth hormones or antibiotics. In August 2016, the company was purchased by Golden Springs Group, the parent company of Gold Coin Group, a feed company based in Singapore.

“Peter joins us with a great record of achievement in advancing international sustainable fish-sourcing and food-production standards, something which I have been able to witness firsthand,” Regal Springs CEO Achim Eichenlaub said. “Peter is respected widely for his ability to collaborate with international key stakeholders across the full spectrum of policy, civil society and industry and has been a key player in helping the fish industry grow in a more stable and long term manner.

Hajipieris formerly worked as the CSR and external affairs director at Nomad Foods Europe. Prior to that, he was the chief technical, sustainability and external affairs officer at Iglo Foods Group. He has also worked in cross-category commercial and operational roles in technical, quality assurance and sustainability for Tesco Stores and Sainsbury’s Supermarkets in the United Kingdom.

“We are particularly pleased that we share a joint passion for producing high-quality products in balance with sustainable development,” Eichenlaub said. “We look forward to Peter continuing to support our aim of producing socially responsible Tilapia through our community-led programs.”

In a statement, Regal Springs praised Hajipieris’ work on the IFFO RS fishmeal and fishoil standard and for being first private industry sector member to be appointed on the Aquaculture Stewardship Council Supervisory Board, where he served six years. It also noted his experience leading supply chain and widespread adoption of the Global Aquaculture Alliance, Marine Stewardship Council and ASC platforms.

“It is a privilege to be part of the exciting challenge of supporting Regal Springs into their next phase of growth and development of which the CSR and sustainability programs are a key part,” Hajipieris said. “Both Rudi Lamprecht and Magdalena Wallhoff left a tremendous legacy and I know that together with Achim as CEO and the Regal Springs team we will continue to drive the Regal Springs’ brand, story and business forward.”
