Sysco acquires large Illinois-based distributor

Global foodservice distributor Sysco is acquiring Waugh Foods, a distributor of numerous food products, including fresh and frozen seafood.

East Peoria, Illinois, U.S.A.-based Waugh, which delivers throughout central Illinois, boasts around USD 40 million (EUR 35 million) in annual sales. It offers nearly 600 seafood products, including battered shrimp, cod taco portions, catfish fillets, mahi mahi, halibut steaks, and salmon burgers.

“Waugh Foods has a long, rich history in the central Illinois area, which includes strong relationships with local independent operators,” said Greg Bertrand, executive vice president of U.S. foodservice operations at Sysco, in a press release. “We are excited to welcome Waugh into the Sysco family and believe this acquisition is a perfect complement to our existing local and regional presence.”

Sysco did not release additional details of the acquisition.

Waugh Foods executives, including Rick Look, president; Tim Waugh, vice president of purchasing; and Joe Waugh, Jr. will continue to manage the business, according to Sysco.
