The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute on Friday announced it will assume client responsibilities for Marine Stewardship Council assessment and certification of Alaska’s salmon fishery.
The ASMI board voted to provisionally become the client, subject to clarification of issues that surfaced during its meeting on Thursday. The questions deal primarily with issues of co-branding and equitable cost sharing. The board delayed final action until its December meeting to provide MSC time to clarify these issues.
ASMI takes over for the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, which sponsored the initial certification. ADF&G announced last year it would no longer serve as the client.
