Scandinavian supplement company Axellus’ cod liver oil from approved wild arctic cod now has the Friend of the Sea seal of approval.
Axellus, which is a collective of three Scandinavian companies, produces the supplements for the Nordic grocery markets.
The company’s 1,000 vessels use long line, purse seine, fixed net and jigging. The certification assessment found that the equipment has no effect on the sea bed, and the cod they fish does not damage the cod stocks there. The assessors also examined the company’s Norway processing plants, and found the process was done in accordance with strict quality controls.
“We’re very glad to have obtained Friend of the Sea certification to prove the sustainable origin of our products” said Shaher Y. Khan, the group’s COO.
