Beaver Street hires director of sustainability

American frozen seafood dealer Beaver Street Fisheries has created a new position to manage the company’s efforts to produce sustainable seafood.

The company, based in Jacksonville, Fla., has promoted Casey Marion to its new position of director of sustainability. Previously, Marion managed the company’s quality management system and maintained its global food safety initiatives certifications.

The new position, according to Beaver Street Executive VP Mark Frisch, will expand on the company’s existing efforts to source and produce sustainable seafood.

“With this commitment, BSF is stressing the importance of responsible sourcing,” Frisch said. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with our partners to ensure best practices and standards are being met, and doing our part to support the growing demands of the international seafood supply.”

Among other duties, Marion will use his new role to work with organizations such as the Global Aquaculture Alliance and its Best Aquaculture Practices program.

“Casey has been an instrumental part of the BSF family, leading our compliance and quality assurance programs,” Frisch said. “Having spent years working with our partners to certify they are meeting our high standards for products, he has the skills and abilities to successfully ensure they are also meeting our expectations on sustainable practices, while identifying new partners who follow the same standards.”
