Bumble Bee Foods is among the recipients of an award handed out by the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF) at the annual U.S. Congressional Gala to be held in Washington, D.C., in late April.
The San Diego-based company, one of the country’s leading shelf-stable seafood producers, is being recognized for its contributions to oceans conservation and stewardship, along with Mexican President Felipe Calderon and actress Bo Derek. The award will be accepted by Bumble Bee CEO Chris Lischewski.
The gala also marks the official launch of the Oceans Caucus Foundation (OCF), which was created last year to promote conservation through a private-public relationship. The ICCF is a nonprofit organization that supports the leadership of the International Conservation Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate.
The ICCF’s presence on Capitol Hill is maintained through a regular series of educational Congressional member and staff events and briefings. Similarly, the OCF will host programs to educate the House and Senate Oceans Caucuses, as well as international policymakers, about relevant issues, initially focusing on illegal fishing, data collection and sharing, marine biodiversity, balancing energy and conservation, and protection and restoration. The OCF is a pro-business, pro-development and pro-environment, which provides a unique platform for them to collaborate with like-minded NGOs and corporate partners.
