Deep-sea fishing operator Sapmer has received Friend of the Sea certification for its tuna activity.
Sapmer operators in the waters of the French Southern and Antarctic territories based on the island of Reunion. The company initiated the FOS certification process in 2011.
To maintain the certification, Sapmer must follow eight criteria that allow FOS to ensure that the company’s tuna activities respect all its requirements in regards to sustainable development. This certification regroups all activities done on board the fishing vessels as well as on shore, and in the processing facility Mer des Mascareignes based in Mauritius.
