First Turkey restaurant chain to offer FoS certified tuna

Dardenia is the first Turkish fast-food restaurant chain to offer Friend of the Sea certified sustainable seafood.

Dardenia is controlled by Turkey-based canned seafood producer Dardanel Önentaş Gıda San. A.Ş., that obtained Friend of the Sea certification for its entire tuna and clam product lines in 2013.

By serving sustainable seafood from Friend of the Sea approved fisheries, Dardenia is authorized to display Friend of the Sea seal of approval on its menu.

Dardenia restaurants are also easily found on Friend of the Sea Seafood mobile app.

“Dardenia's customers are increasingly aware of environmental issues and appreciate our engagement to seafood sustainability,” said Nıyazı Onen, Dardanel Group president.

Founded in 2011, Dardenia is Turkey's first and only seafood fast-food category chain in Istanbul. The restaurants reached more than 130,000 customers in the first year. Dardenia has recently expanded by adding six restaurants.
