Friend of the Sea has announced that Sopralex et Vosmarques SA, the Belgian-based owner of the Imperial brand of seafood products, has earned Friend of the Sea certification for sustainable seafood production.
Sopralex’s “Imperial” brand covers a range of seafood products, including wild tuna, wild salmon, mackerel, sardines, anchovies, crabs, codfish, herring, sprat, shrimps, and piltchards. According to Friend of the Sea, the company is also certified Dolphin-Safe and Fost Plus, a program that contributes to the reduction of household waste.
“The Imperial brand is well-known throughout Europe, so it’s helpful for the cause of sustainability for them to demonstrate their commitment to the environment,” Paolo Bray, director of Friend of the Sea, said. “Their product line is quite extensive. Making sustainability part of the brand image makes an impression on consumers.”
According to Friend of the Sea, the certification by Sopralex is part of a broader effort by the company to protect the environment in its operations.
