The New Hampshire, U.S.A.-based Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) has partnered with blockchain-based traceability solution Wholechain to create a new traceability and assurance platform called Prism.
Prism “is designed to revolutionize how our customers manage and verify their supply chains," GSA IT Director Tim Grotheer said in a statement. "This platform represents a leap forward in technology, combining robust data systems with user-centric design to ensure seamless tracking, greater accountability, and the confidence that comes with comprehensive insights.”
Blockchain is a digital ledger system that allows networked computers to share supply chain data simultaneously. The blockchain-based Prism will allow GSA partners to share sourcing information for each part of their supply chain automatically with the rest of the supply chain’s network, as well as to access audit and traceability data together for the first time.
It will offer insights and metrics across GSA standards and is augmented with Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability (GDST)/GS1-Electronic Product Code Information Services (EPCIS) digital traceability.
As part of the launch of the new program, the two organizations will be running a traceability webinar series throughout 2025. The series will cover a number of topics related to supply train traceability, including an update on the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and on operationalizing traceability.
