High Liner steps up for Seafood Summit

SeaWeb on Monday announced that Nova Scotia-based seafood supplier High Liner Foods will be the principal sponsor of the 2011 Seafood Summit.

The ninth annual Seafood Summit, organized by SeaWeb’s Seafood Choices initiative, will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, from 21 January to 2 February.

“High Liner Foods is committed to taking a proactive leadership role to ensure that our oceans and fisheries are healthy for future generations, and we are very happy to support this extremely crucial summit, bringing together the leaders of our industry on the issue of sustainability,” said High Liner President and CEO Henry Demone. “This is a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and knowledge to bring about positive change, and we hope to emerge from this summit with a common vision for future sustainability efforts.”

SeaWeb also in October announced Yvon Chouinard, co-founder of outdoor outfitter Patagonia and 1% for the planet, will be the event’s keynote speaker.

Registration for the Seafood Summit, which will be held at The Westin Bayshore in Vancouver, is now open. The theme of the 2011 event is “responsibility without borders.”

Representatives of the global seafood industry, conservation organizations, scientists, academics, policymakers and media professionals will convene for three days to examine the many factors influencing sustainability and its role in the global seafood landscape.

This year’s event in Paris attracted more than 640 delegates from 42 countries. Check out SeafoodSource’s coverage of the 2009 Seafood Summit by SeafoodSource Contributing Editor Lindsey Partos and SeaFood Business Associate Editor James Wright.
